ADAM JOHN CULLEN
GATHER
ADAM
PRESENTED IN COLLABORATION WITH LON GALLERY, MELBOURNE.
August 28 - October 11, 2025
Gather is a collection of objects of personal significance; souvenirs from family holidays, walnuts from my grandmother’s backyard tree, tigers-eye for safe travel, acorns from the oak forest, a staff photo of my father, attempts at gardening, the name of a past share-house. These objects have been cast in pewter from collected goblets and vases from second-hand stores. Many were engraved with the milestones and achievements of their previous owners, now melted down and reused. In combining these materials Gather is the story of narratives, both personal and collective.
Adam John Cullen is a visual artist who predominantly works with sculpture, making vessels, objects and installation outcomes that resemble and incorporate fragmented ruins or remnants of domestic life. These works serve as a form of biographical excavation, interpreting personal and collective histories that reference people, places and events. Cullen has exhibited in major institutions across Australia and internationally, including Melbourne Now at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Primavera at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Sydney, Gertrude Contemporary Glasshouse, Shepparton Art Museum, Yellow Brick Studios in Athens, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan. His work is held in various public and private collections including Australian National University (ANU), Drill Hall Gallery Collection, Shepparton Art Museum Collection and Deakin University Art Collection.
Adam John Cullen is represented nationally by Lon Gallery, Melbourne.
