JAMIE NORTH

b. 1971, Newcastle, Australia. Lives and works Sydney, Australia

In the work of Jamie North we are faced with the dynamic interplay between the industrial and the organic in a stark dichotomy that extends beyond materiality.  For North, the juxtaposition of industry and flora is not merely an aesthetic choice but a philosophical stance. His sculptures, often wild and lithophytic organisms, refuse to conform to the manicured norms of conventional art.  Instead, they echo the resilience and capacity of nature - pushing through concrete, reclaiming spaces, and embodying a moment of perfect contradiction.

North has exhibited widely, most notably at The Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland, The National Gallery of Victoria and the 20th Biennale of Sydney.  He is also known for his numerous large-scale public art works located around the world.
